On the morning of 5 November, Viable Cities will host its first program conference in Stockholm. The same day, in the afternoon, there will be an information meeting on the third call for Climate Neutral Cities 2030.
During the week, information meetings will also take place in Gothenburg (Nov 7), Malmö (Nov 8) and Umeå (Nov 9). To register for the information meeting in Malmö and Umeå, please send an email to Olena Tatarchenko, olena.tatarchenko@viablecities.com.
The program conference will focus on the portfolio of Viable Cities projects, including the exchange of experiences and identification of synergies.
After the conference, it's time for an information meeting about Viable Cities' third call, which focuses on creating climate-neutral cities in Sweden by 2030. This call aims to mobilize and improve the conditions for Swedish cities to further increase their ambition to become climate-neutral by 2030.
Time for the first program conference
In September 2017, the Viable Cities program was launched. The program is one of 17 strategic innovation programs with funding from Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas. The program aims to transition to climate-smart and resource-efficient cities with digitization and citizen engagement as enablers. The program conference will focus on the portfolio of projects within Viable Cities and, among other things, provide space for exchange of experience and identification of synergies. Today, the portfolio includes the Sharing Cities Sweden program and 20 research and innovation projects funded within Viable Cities' first call. Sharing Cities Sweden was launched in autumn 2017 and is a national program for the sharing economy in cities with test beds in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Umeå. In June 2018, it was decided to fund twenty projects in Viable Cities' first call with a wide range and a total of 100 participating actors. Here you can find more information about the projects within Viable Cities.
Information sessions on the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 call for proposals
We are now taking the next step in the development of the Viable Cities programme and issuing a call for proposals that focuses on creating climate-neutral cities in Sweden by 2030. Cities are central to climate work, and in many cases their climate targets are significantly more ambitious than national targets. This call aims to mobilize and improve the conditions for Swedish cities to further increase their ambition to become climate-neutral by 2030.The call is inspired by the ongoing work in the EU with so-called "mission-driven innovation". The idea is to focus research and innovation efforts on a visionary but clear and concrete objective that can gather many forces, across sectors, actors and disciplines, and lead to groundbreaking innovation for systemic change. An important starting point is also to identify and exploit synergies between different support programs and investments at multiple levels (city, region, national and international). There is also a significant potential to create a broader involvement of citizens in efforts to realize this objective. At the information meeting, the program office from Viable Cities will present the call and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Administrators from the Swedish Energy Agency will also be present to answer questions. There will also be an opportunity for matchmaking between participating actors before the application.
