Falkenberg hooks arms with Kalmar, along with Mörbylånga.
Within the framework of Viable Cities and supported by the resources of the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 initiative, Falkenberg, together with the pilot city of Kalmar and the twin city of Mörbylånga, want to create a good life for everyone within the limits of the planet. Together, the cities want to show how growing rural municipalities - with all its challenges and opportunities - can accelerate the climate transition locally and contribute regionally, nationally and internationally.
The cooperation with Kalmar and Mörbylånga creates good conditions for Mörbylånga to exchange experiences and explore new working methods. The cities have many similarities in terms of natural geography, located on the coast and with large rural areas. All three cities are popular destinations for outdoor activities, recreation and experiences, especially during the summer months. The municipalities also have a similar composition of business with a combination of trade and
service sector, agricultural industries and some large industries. All three are also part of several networks in the climate field, which will be able to make important contributions in the implementation of the transition.

Climate City Contract 2030 is an effort to manage the climate transition that we need to implement in a short time to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. It is an agreement between municipalities, government agencies and Viable Cities, in which all parties undertake to make a concrete contribution to accelerating the climate transition. The letter of intent is a preparation for signing the contract next year.
To achieve deep change, we need to move from fragmented projects to an ecosystem of efforts that all pull in the same direction. Cities are doing this together with Viable Cities, funders government agencies and other partners, in different constellations and with different objectives. It is about moving beyond dealing with symptoms and instead focusing on underlying problems in our social structure.
