Håbo Municipality is currently working on forming an internal transition team, ahead of the work to create a transition arena where more actors will be part of the transition work in the municipality. Here, we have worked with Uppsala Municipality, among others, to learn about their transition arena, where the business community plays a major role.
Håbo Municipality is also in the process of launching a Climate and Energy Program that will explain the current situation and shape the way forward in transition issues. In addition to this, we have made a political decision on category management in the procurement of vehicles, transport, and travel. Håbo Municipality has also organized a number of knowledge-raising events for young people with a focus on climate neutrality, including Mobility Day (as part of European Mobility Week) and Democracy Day, where the theme for the day was Agenda 2030 Goal 13: combating climate change. We are also working on climate adaptation through the Horizon Europe project CLIMAAX, where we are working on issues such as heavy rainfall and stormwater management.
Through the municipality's sustainability strategy, the municipal council has adopted a goal that Håbo Municipality's organization will be fossil-free by 2030 and lead the way for the rest of society to achieve the same goal by 2050. More specific goals will be adopted through the climate and energy program, which will be anchored with the municipal executive management before being adopted by the municipal council.
In the city's progress report, they discuss the work being done, the transition hub, the project portfolio, and much more.

Håbo Municipality's work with CLIMAAX, once the analyses are complete. We believe that the method we have used in the project could be beneficial for others to use in their work on mapping climate-related risks. Incidentally, we are currently looking to other municipalities for inspiration and learning from their efforts and work!
Climate City Contract 2030 is an effort to manage the climate transition that we need to implement in a short time to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. It is an agreement between municipalities, government agencies and Viable Cities, in which all parties undertake to make a concrete contribution to accelerating the climate transition. The letter of intent is a preparation for signing the contract next year.
To achieve deep change, we need to move from fragmented projects to an ecosystem of efforts that all pull in the same direction. Cities are doing this together with Viable Cities, funders government agencies and other partners, in different constellations and with different objectives. It is about moving beyond dealing with symptoms and instead focusing on underlying problems in our social structure. Here you will find the initiatives and studies within the city that have been granted funding under Viable Cities.
