Climate-neutral Falköping 2030

In Falköping, efforts are being made to mobilize at several levels.

Falköping hooks arms with Gothenburg.

Gothenburg and Falköping transition arena

Falköping is a small town with high ambitions and good momentum in bringing the whole community on the transition journey. A key to Falköping's success will be to work in a mobilizing way with the municipality's administrations and companies as well as with actors across the Falköping community. As the twin of Gothenburg, Falköping leads by example of how a smaller municipality takes on the mission, thus making it easier for Gothenburg to mobilize other smaller municipalities in our surroundings.

A particular focus for Falköping together with Gothenburg will be to involve the other municipalities in the Gothenburg and Västra Götaland regions. With this approach, Gothenburg, Falköping and the regions simultaneously broaden the meaning of local. The scaling up itself will contribute to an increased pace of climate transition in Gothenburg and at the same time also in Falköping and the other municipalities in the sub-region and the region.

Falköping has high ambitions in climate work, we take responsibility for our earth and our fellow human beings. Joining Viable Cities creates the opportunity for accelerated learning that increases the pace of the climate transition. As a twin city of Gothenburg, we will contribute with the perspective of a smaller rural municipality and find smart solutions together. We want to share experiences and improve practices so that more cities and places become climate neutral by 2030.

The city is currently working on collecting good examples of how they mobilize and work for the climate transition. They will be here soon!

Falköping declaration of intent

Climate City Contract 2030 is an effort to manage the climate transition that we need to implement in a short time to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. It is an agreement between municipalities, government agencies and Viable Cities, in which all parties undertake to make a concrete contribution to accelerating the climate transition. The letter of intent is a preparation for signing the contract next year.

Falköping invests and tests

To achieve deep change, we need to move from fragmented projects to an ecosystem of efforts that all pull in the same direction. Cities are doing this together with Viable Cities, funders government agencies and other partners, in different constellations and with different objectives. It is about moving beyond dealing with symptoms and instead focusing on underlying problems in our social structure. Here you will find the initiatives and studies within the city that have been granted funding under Viable Cities.
