Since 2023, the city of Landskrona has had an approved environmental program covering the focus areas of minimal climate impact, valuable nature and high biodiversity, and a healthy and sustainable living environment.
Three related strategies guide the work for each of these focus areas:
The strategies contain overall goals, focus areas, and sub-goals, all of which have been adopted by the city council. Each strategy also has an action plan that describes concrete measures. Each of the city's administrations and municipal companies is responsible for the measures that relate to their operations.
Landskrona is currently focusing on:
In the city's progress report, they discuss the work being done, the transition hub, the project portfolio, and much more.

RecycLA
Landskrona's service administration launched RecycLA in early 2025. It is a service for reusing furniture and furnishings within the city's operations. The goal is to reduce waste and climate impact while benefiting the city's economy. By reusing fully usable furniture, we can use resources more efficiently, reduce waste, and contribute to long-term sustainable development in Landskrona. RecycLA is a built-in feature on the intranet, which means we don't need any external systems.
Energy and climate agreement with the business sector
To strengthen efforts to reduce local climate impact, the city of Landskrona has developed joint energy and climate agreements for businesses. Energy and climate agreements are a way to engage local businesses and join forces on climate and energy issues. Through these agreements, businesses commit to a handful of goals that will promote the climate or contribute to sustainable energy use. The companies themselves choose which goals they want to focus on.
Common measures that companies work with are:
The city offers at least two activities per year for companies to participate in. For example, we have organized a lecture on the energy situation with the help of Energikontor Syd, E.On, and Landskrona Energi. We have also organized a business meeting on the electrification of work machines and vehicles. There, local companies and the city were able to discuss experiences and lessons learned.
The Climate Box
One of the municipality's schools sells Klimatlådan (Climate Box). This is part of the effort to reduce food waste in schools. Instead of throwing away leftover food after lunch, students and staff at Glumslövs School can buy food to take home at cost price. Students and staff at the school bring their own lunch boxes, which they fill when the school cafeterias have closed for the day. They pay for the food using Swish.
Management of green spaces
Landskrona's comprehensive plan includes a policy on tree felling. This states that if a tree is felled, at least two new ones must be planted. An internal cross-departmental project is also underway to explore the possibility of changing green space management to increase the proportion of meadow areas in the municipality. The city has held meadow meetings with the aim of bringing together the units that work with planning and maintenance of green spaces. In this way, we have established a working method and the area of meadowland has increased. The measure is an important part of the city's work to strengthen biodiversity and increase carbon storage in the municipality.
Climate City Contract 2030 is an effort to manage the climate transition that we need to implement in a short time to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. It is an agreement between municipalities, government agencies and Viable Cities, in which all parties undertake to make a concrete contribution to accelerating the climate transition. The letter of intent is a preparation for signing the contract next year.
To achieve deep change, we need to move from fragmented projects to an ecosystem of efforts that all pull in the same direction. Cities are doing this together with Viable Cities, funders government agencies and other partners, in different constellations and with different objectives. It is about moving beyond dealing with symptoms and instead focusing on underlying problems in our social structure. Here you will find the initiatives and studies within the city that have been granted funding under Viable Cities.
