Several processes for accelerated transition are underway in Höganäs. The transition work needs to take place both within and outside the municipal organization, and Höganäs is working with both perspectives.

  • Together with our twin city Helsingborg and local farmers, we are working to develop long-term sustainable agriculture.
  • For several years now, the municipality has had a sustainability network with local companies to facilitate the transition of the business community.
  • The municipal organisation's transition work is driven by a high level of ambition from administrations and companies. We have made significant progress in several areas of the environmental programme. Several goals have been achieved, particularly in the areas of energy and climate. Other goals are close to being achieved, while some still require further efforts. The municipality's work demonstrates a broad commitment and a clear desire to achieve a sustainable future.

Höganäs' Environmental Program 2015-2025 has guided our sustainability work to date. During the year, a new sustainability program took shape, combining previous environmental programs, public health programs, and plans for accessibility and participation into one comprehensive sustainability program. During the year, a new department for development and sustainability was also created at the municipal executive office to strengthen sustainability work throughout the municipal group.

Deep dive into Höganäs' transition

In the city's latest update, they talk about the work, the transition arena, the project portfolio and much more.

We see participation in Climate Neutral Cities 2030 as a valuable step towards our vision, in which a long-term sustainable Höganäs is one of the building blocks. We cannot solve the climate challenge on our own, and we are engaging the whole community in our sustainability work. However, the challenges require new methods and new forms of collaboration, which we believe Climate Neutral Cities 2030 can help with. The Kullahalvön peninsula has great potential as a transition arena for the future.

2025

In Höganäs, we have started a sustainability network for local businesses. The setup is very simple and the threshold for participation is low. The network serves as a meeting place for local businesses to discuss sustainability issues. With clear themes, it is easy for participating companies to get involved and contribute. We work together with our neighboring municipalities and their respective sustainability networks. The companies operate throughout the region.

Höganäs letter of intent

Climate City Contract 2030 is an effort to manage the climate transition that we need to implement in a short time to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. It is an agreement between municipalities, government agencies and Viable Cities, in which all parties undertake to make a concrete contribution to accelerating the climate transition. The letter of intent is a preparation for signing the contract next year.

Höganäs invests and tests

To achieve deep change, we need to move from fragmented projects to an ecosystem of efforts that all pull in the same direction. Cities are doing this together with Viable Cities, funders government agencies and other partners, in different constellations and with different objectives. It is about moving beyond dealing with symptoms and instead focusing on underlying problems in our social structure. Here you will find the initiatives and studies within the city that have been granted funding under Viable Cities.
