Carbon storage involves, among other things, strengthening and maintaining natural carbon sinks. An important area is carbon sinks in the soil, which can also improve soil health. Welcome to UniCities Transition Lab Forum II on January 29, 2026. The forum focuses on the role of universities as catalysts for sustainable, resilient, and climate-neutral urban development, and builds on experiences from Viable Cities and citiES2030, among others.

The Energy Fair with Sweden's Energy Forum is a conference and exhibition for future energy solutions. The fair takes place on May 21-22, 2025 at Kistamässan in Stockholm and brings together industry, government agencies, politicians and experts.

On May 20, SEI will launch the Consumption Compass 2.0, a web-based and interactive tool that illustrates and analyzes the climate impact of household consumption in detail. Digital event.

On May 8, CoAction Lund will talk about its climate collaboration between 25 actors and what the initiative does in each focus area: collaboration, energy and mobility. In addition

On Saturday, March 8, Snowtopia will take over the Holiday Club in Åre for an après-ski with talks and music. Meet skiers, artists, activists and business profiles who unite in the fight for climate justice and white winters! Snowtopia will feature artists Lisa Miskovsky and Magnus Carlson, elite skiers from the World Cup, activists and researchers from Protect Our Winters and the head of sustainability for SkiStar. Snowtopia is a collaboration between the World Cup in Åre, the Swedish Ski Association, LiveGreen and the Stockholm Resilience Center. It is part of the Nordic Sustainable Arena, which will be held for the first time on March 7-8.

Welcome to Umeå and Changemakers for Impact: Transforming Cities, a meeting place for changemakers who are passionate about creating beautiful, inclusive and sustainable cities.

Viable Cities and the European Commission's representation in Sweden are pleased to invite you to our seventh European Viable Cities Day on December 6, 2024 - a bridge between the Swedish and European efforts towards the mission of climate neutral and sustainable cities by 2030.

The commitment to the climate transition is bubbling among citizens - both within municipalities and at the national level. Inclusion of residents is a prerequisite for a fair climate transition, and throughout the country, various forms of local citizens' councils and dialogues are now being tested to get more people involved in climate work. Welcome to a full-day workshop where we meet to share experiences and knowledge about local citizens' councils for the climate. Together, we can learn about the opportunities and challenges of the methods we have tested - and how we handle the results.

Resilient and sustainable food systems are an important part of achieving climate-neutral and climate-adapted cities and communities. How can we move from research to transition? How do we collaborate to build knowledge and understanding of the system together, and create a common vision? And how can cities contribute to food production?

The Smart City Expo attracts industry leaders, policy makers, researchers and entrepreneurs to work with and for cities. Viable Cities will be represented in Barcelona and, as always, eager to discuss and engage in conversations about the central role of cities in the climate transition.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established in 2001 by the United Nations to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and politics. The Forum, convened by UN-Habitat, is an open and inclusive high-level platform to address the challenges of sustainable urbanization. Viable Cities is on hand to engage in discussions and drive the development of sustainable and inclusive cities and communities forward.

Each year, Viable Cities holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM) for all member organizations to discuss the programme's activities. The AGM decides on Viable Cities' strategy within the framework of the Swedish Energy Agency's program decisions. At the AGM, each member organization is represented by one person on the voting list, but more people from the same organization can participate without voting rights. 2024 is the program's seventh AGM.

This fall's first Climate Breakfast will focus on procurement to accelerate the climate transition. Procurement can be a powerful tool to drive a faster transition to climate-neutral and sustainable cities, but how? How can local authorities take a leading role? What are the key areas? What examples of new ways of working on this exist today?

Vinnova together with Viable Cities organizes an information meeting on 2 October 13:00-14:30 with the latest in the EU Cities Mission. There will also be information about calls from similar EU programs relevant to Cities Mission. Register by October 1.

Climate, environmental and sustainability issues are more important than ever, and municipalities have a key role to play in transforming society. Sustainable Cities 2024 focuses on the most pressing sustainability issues for Sweden's municipalities on topics such as combating illegal waste, climate adaptation, budget challenges, and AI and technology. Viable Cities is participating with representation from both the program office and the cities.

During Innovation Week, we explore governance, system innovation, AI, procurement, scaling, internationalization and much more.

The 2030 cities have high climate ambitions, but are in many ways dependent on neighboring municipalities and the regional level to achieve their climate goals. Structures that affect the climate often span municipal boundaries. Prudent public actors need to strengthen their ability to act strategically, in the long term and in collaboration to create and use a common scope for action.

Join us at the Impact Innovation Summit, where Viable Cities, NetZeroCities and the City of Helsingborg come together to focus on climate action, citizen engagement, and the green transition - the key pillars of the summit.

In the fall of 2024, the third European call for urban development within Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) will open. Formas, the Swedish Energy Agency, Vinnova and Viable Cities are organizing an information meeting to explain the content of the partnership, the direction of the call and practicalities of applying.

The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions welcomes you to this year's conference for environmental and climate strategists. The theme of this year's conference for environmental and climate strategists is "Governance and management for climate and sustainable transition" and the conference offers interactive exercises, time for conversation and dialog and current information from SKR.
