New call from Viable Cities - Climate Neutral Cities 2030 2.0.
Today, February 24, we are opening a new call for proposals so that more cities can join the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 initiative. The total budget for the initiative is SEK 200 million.
We are currently working to accelerate the transition to climate-neutral and sustainable cities together with nine Swedish municipalities and their partners. The municipalities are Enköping, Gothenburg, Järfälla, Lund, Malmö, Stockholm, Umeå, Uppsala and Växjö. We now welcome all Swedish cities with high ambitions for climate change to join the initiative.
The nine cities will become twenty during the year.
Achieving the profound transformation we need in a short time requires cooperation between citizens, politicians, businesses and civil servants at a level never seen before. The cities in the initiative are committed to testing new approaches and solutions, learning from each other and working towards the mission: to create cities that work well for the people who live in them, that are good for the economy of citizens, businesses and society - and - that are good for the climate.
A new instrument in our work is Climate City Contract 2030 - a joint effort to accelerate development to achieve the climate transition in a decade. It was signed by the highest political leadership of the nine municipalities above, by the Directors-General of the agencies Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas and Tillväxtverket, and by Viable Cities in December 2020.
From the Viable Cities side, we will now continue to develop Climate City Contract 2030 together with the cities, including through three development projects that focus on climate investment plans, governance and digitalization as tools to accelerate the climate transition.
Climate City Contract 2030 is the first of its kind in Europe. Our ambition is to contribute our experience to the development work going on in Europe, but also globally. We already have collaborations at Nordic, European and global level.
We now look forward to working with more cities to further accelerate the transition to climate-neutral cities by 2030 - with a good life for all within the boundaries of the planet.
