Workshop: Exponential Climate Action for Cities (X-CAC)

Workshop | April 12 - 13

A rapid transition is needed for the world to meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. Emissions need to be stabilized by 2020 and then halved every decade. One option for achieving very rapid change is a combination of exponential solutions/scaling paired with strong policy measures and behavioral changes. It is also important that rapid transformation delivers societal benefits in addition to climate benefits to make it attractive - this can be difficult to quantify but is a discussion we want to pursue in parallel.

The workshop maps out what an exponential transition in cities could look like starting with the sectors of mobility/transportation, buildings, and integrated and open systems linking sectors, based on world-leading examples. The focus is on solutions that can be implemented and have an impact up to 2030.The results of the workshop will create an Exponential Roadmap Report that will be presented at the Global Climate Action Summit in California in September. The workshop is organized in collaboration with Future Earth, Ericsson, Stockholm Resilience Centre, UK Science&Innovation Network (UK), Inno4SD/TSO (Netherlands) and WWF.
