Ten cities ready for M100 in Romania

National nodes for the urban climate transition are growing in number and strength in Europe. Today, the ten cities that will be part of the Viable Cities M100 sibling programme in Romania were announced. Olga Kordas, a member of the jury, was impressed by the applications.

During the M100 Climate Neutrality Forum in Bucharest, Romania, the ten Romanian cities that will pioneer the climate transition in the country were announced. The jury, which selected the ten cities from 16 applications, included Viable Cities Program Director Olga Kordas, together with Julio Lumbreras, Program Director of the Spanish National Node CitiES2030, and Maria Vassilakou from the Board of the EU Cities Mission, among others.

- I am deeply impressed by the ambition, maturity and innovative thinking reflected in all the Romanian cities' applications," said Olga Kordas.

- A crucial task for all cities now is to engage the private sector even more strongly in climate change mitigation efforts, as their involvement will be key to promoting impactful change.

The winning cities were formally announced during the conference, after the jury shared their insights from reviewing all the applications. During the event, Olga Kordas and Julio Lumbreras, as representatives of the first European national nodes, shared their experience of leading these ecosystems of action to accelerate the climate transition. Now, the work of Romania's M100 and their ten cities is starting in earnest.

- I look forward to deepening our cooperation and fertilizing the mutual learning between Sweden's Viable Cities and Romania's M100, as we work together to accelerate the transition to climate-neutral and thriving cities and communities," said Olga Kordas.
