Government assignment to Viable Cities - to support sustainable development in Northern Sweden

Today it was announced that Viable Cities has been commissioned by the government to support innovation in sustainable urban and community development in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. This is due to the large establishments and expansions planned in the north.

- "It is a great honor to receive this assignment, and it fits very well with the processes we are already working on in the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 initiative," says Olga Kordas, Program Manager Viable Cities.

The Government is now instructing the Swedish Energy Agency to reinforce Viable Cities with SEK 1.8 million in 2021 and a further SEK 1.5 million in 2022.

- There are several major business establishments and business expansions in Norrbotten and Västerbotten, and the Government therefore announced in the 2022 budget bill an investment in innovative, inclusive and sustainable urban development projects in these counties. "This assignment further strengthens the conditions for creating long-term sustainable, circular and inclusive living environments in cities and communities in Norrbotten and Västerbotten," says Minister for Housing Märta Stenevi.
