Transition Lab Forum 19: Climate and preparedness for resilient cities and communities

Karlstad Municipality, Kristinehamn Municipality and Viable Cities invite you to Transition Lab Forum 19 where we will explore the roles of different actors in creating conditions for working with climate-neutral and climate-adapted cities - as a lever to strengthen society's preparedness to meet the multiple crises of today and tomorrow. During Transition Lab Forum 19 Live, you will get a condensed overview of three days of co-creation.

We live in an era where crises such as climate change, wars in our neighbourhood, disinformation, hybrid threats, increased polarization and a destabilized international environment with growing geopolitical tensions are part of our daily lives. This rapidly changing risk landscape places new demands on multi-level cooperation and tests our collective ability to act.

Climate change already has implications for our national security. Higher temperatures, sea level rise and more frequent and extreme weather events threaten buildings, infrastructure, the natural environment and human life and health. Production conditions in green industries and other sectors of the economy will change if access to water is threatened. In the longer term, climate change poses an existential threat to all of humanity.

Accelerating the transition to climate-neutral and climate-resilient cities is not only a climate investment - it is also an investment in our resilience and preparedness. By breaking the dependence on fossil fuels, we make ourselves less vulnerable to energy crisis and food shortages, strengthen resilience to extreme weather, and build communities that are more resilient - both physically and socially - in the face of polarization and disinformation. By developing circular flows, local energy solutions and climate-smart infrastructure, we are strengthening livelihoods and fostering trust and community in our cities and communities.

Gy integrating climate objectives into community planning, investments and preparedness strategies, we can create resilient communities that are better equipped to face both today's and tomorrow's challenges. As we accelerate the transition to climate-neutral and climate-resilient cities, we are also building long-term sustainable preparedness to face many societal risks and threats.

A warm welcome to the live broadcast from Karlstad!
