Today's society is built around roads and access for vehicles rather than people, leading to unsustainable resource use and inequalities. How we move people and goods in and around cities is linked to how we design our cities. The needs we have to transport people and goods also depend on how we act and think about the use of resources. Several competences and actors need to work together to transform cities and communities into attractive and accessible living environments for all. This is a prerequisite for sustainable and fair resource use and for achieving climate neutrality.
Municipalities need to collaborate with a range of actors such as municipal companies, other public organizations, business, academia, civil society and citizens, in order for the transition to take place at the pace and scale required. In Sweden and Europe, many actors are mobilizing for climate-neutral cities in 2030. To succeed, we need to explore new paths, test, evaluate, and learn from each other to increase the pace of the transition work together. See you on June 4!
The context: Viable Cities' mission is Climate Neutral Cities 2030 with a good life for all within the planetary boundaries. Within the Climate Neutral Cities 2030 initiative, 48 Swedish cities are working together with several national government agencies and Viable Cities to lead the way in the climate transition. The cities have taken it upon themselves to test new approaches and solutions, to learn from each other and to work towards the mission: to create cities that work well for the people who live in them, that are good for the economy of citizens, businesses and society - and - that are good for the climate. The Transition Lab Forum, which Viable Cities organizes three times a year, is a central arena for shared learning within the initiative. Over three days, we deepen and accelerate knowledge and understanding together on a theme that is important for accelerating the transition to Climate Neutral Cities 2030.
Hosts: Viable Cities, Linköping Municipality in cooperation with Mjölby Municipality, Drive Sweden and Shift Sweden.
