Viable Cities and the European Commission Representation in Sweden invite you to the eighth European Viable Cities Day on December 5, 2025. The conference is a bridge between the Swedish, European and global work towards the mission of climate neutral and sustainable cities by 2030.
Between 13:00 and 15:00, a live broadcast will take place and everyone is welcome to participate. You can watch the broadcast via Viable Cities YouTube. You can sign up for reminders via this link.
This year, the main focus will be on climate transition, resilience and financing. Decision-makers at different levels, such as local council chairs, directors-general of national government agencies and other key actors in the transition, will take the stage during the day. They will share their experiences, ideas and reflections on accelerating the local climate transition, focusing on different levels of governance - from the local to the national to the global.
The signing ceremony of the Climate City Contract 2030 will also take place during the event.

The first Swedish contracts were signed in 2020, and the movement to accelerate the climate transition in cities is growing and gaining momentum. In 2025, Viable Cities continues to mobilize with cities and government agencies, including now 48 cities across Sweden, home to about 50% of the country's population. On December 5, 2025, for the fifth year, 48 Swedish city council chairs and directors general from six government agencies will come together and sign a revised and more ambitious Climate City Contract 2030, or letter of intent. For the first time, cities are also coordinating their efforts in joint commitments to accelerate the climate transition.
Welcome to European Viable Cities Day 2025!
