The call for Climate Neutral Cities 2030 welcomes project proposals that focus on cities that want to accelerate the transition to become viable and climate neutral already in 2030. Project consortia will focus on the transition process and use digitalisation and citizen engagement as enablers.
The call is aimed at consortia led by cities that are working long-term and strategically to achieve climate neutrality [1].
A minimum of three partners must support each application. These can be e.g. companies, universities, colleges, public actors, non-profit organizations and trade associations. The main applicant must be a city/municipality and at least one partner must be a university, college or research institute.
[1] The term climate neutral means that the city/district operates in a way that produces no net addition of greenhouse gases. Description can also be found under section "7. What does climate neutral cities mean?" in the full call text.
The work needs to be based on a holistic approach to sustainable urban development, preferably linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Based on the city's specific conditions and priorities, the action plan can focus on at least two of the following four focus areas:

The call is carried out jointly by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas. It is the Swedish Energy Agency that receives the applications and decides, preliminarily no later than August 2019, which projects are granted. In early November 2018, four information meetings about the call were held in Stockholm (Nov 5), Gothenburg (Nov 7), Malmö (Nov 8) and Umeå (Nov 9).
