Effective energy planning for smart and sustainable cities

For more effective urban planning, tools are needed to visualize and communicate the impact of urban development on the energy system. Current tools are limited to static data, which means that synergies in the system cannot be identified and realized.

This initiative is a feasibility study investigating the feasibility of developing a dynamic visualization tool for more efficient planning processes. The tool is developed in consultation with Kiruna municipality where the benefits will be significant due to the major change the city is facing.

Within the framework of the feasibility study, a mockup of a visualization tool will be developed and a first sketch of what the decision support in the finished tool needs to include for effective decision-making. A plan for full implementation of the tool with associated decision support function will be developed. The results of the study will be communicated to other Swedish actors with an interest in urban transformation.
