Umeå, Stockholm and Malmö nominated for the Plan Prize

Three of our climate and sustainability pioneers - Umeå, Malmö and Stockholm - have been nominated for the Swedish Architects' award for the best plan of the year - the Plan Prize. The winner will be revealed at the Architecture Gala on April 7.

For Umeå's contribution, the jury's motivation reads: 'In Umeå, social sustainability and the citizens' perspective are in focus when the city produces district descriptions as a basis for future planning. The report "Umeå's districts - that's how it is!" is based on an exemplary analysis of the place, the residents and their experience of well-being and security."

- It is fantastic that our work and our methods are being recognized. Especially since it is a work that the people of Umeå have been very much involved in. In dialogues in the districts and on the web, the people of Umeå have shared their thoughts and ideas. This is why it feels like the whole of Umeå has been nominated for this award," says Janet Ågren (S), Umeå municipality, on their website.

The City of Malmö is nominated for its plan for the Sofielund district, with the motivation: "The City of Malmö breaks new ground in the planning of the Sofielund business area by prioritizing cultural and industrial activities instead of housing in a central location. The program includes a cultural noise zone that protects the right of noisy activities to remain and develop on their own terms."

Stockholm is nominated for its building regulations and architectural policy: "The building regulations deepen the knowledge of how Stockholm has developed in harmony with the landscape; how the high north-facing fault lines, gravel ridges, bays and streams have shaped the city. The architectural policy highlights the importance of formulating a site-specific architectural idea, as well as developing the city's identity with art and temporary architecture," writes the jury.
