The initiative builds on a sustainability program for the 2020s based on lessons learned from Hammarby Sjöstad and Norra Djurgårdsstaden, as well as other successful sustainable urban development projects. The project is mostly developed by 2030 and takes advantage of the unique access that a non-profit church foundation has as a demanding landowner.
The value of the initiative culminates in the first work package "Local Learning for Global Leadership" where the results of the demonstrations and expert groups form the basis for the planning process of the rest of the district.
A digital platform for citizen engagement is planned for the district and a first version in the form of a digital platform and physical collaboration hub is evaluated during the initiative. The platform strengthens citizens' influence in the development process, while providing residents with feedback on their sustainable lifestyles.
