Viable Cities is co-organizer of The Sustainability Arena full day Sustainable Building 2030 - faster forward together!
Location: M/S Teaterskeppet in Visby harbor.

About Sustainable construction 2030 - moving faster together
The solutions to reach the goal of climate-neutral construction and cities by 2030 lie in the areas of policy, procurement, recycling, innovation and financial markets - that's why we are building the day around these topics. What can each of these areas do to address the challenges facing the sector? Listen to and participate in the discussion with stakeholders and experts on the challenges and the solutions that need to be scaled up.
Viable Cities is co-organizing this day together with Sustainable Innovation, Local Roadmap for a Climate Neutral Building and Construction Sector in Malmö 2030 (LFM30), Östergötland Bygger Klimatneutralt (ÖBKN), Lindab Sweden, HBV and Adda.
- 09.15 - 09.45 Sustainable construction by 2030, faster together!
With only five years to go until 2030, it is now high time for the construction sector to deliver results to reach the 2030 climate-neutral construction targets. The construction, real estate and civil engineering industries are mobilizing, but do we have what it takes to reach the targets? Speakers include Program Manager Olga Kordas - 09.45 - 10.30 What policy decisions are needed to achieve sustainable construction by 2030?
We have ambitious climate targets to be achieved by 2030. How do we increase the pace, who does what and how can policies at EU, national and municipal level contribute? What legislation and incentives can remove the obstacles to scaling up sustainable construction? - 11.00 - 12.00 How do we finance the transition to sustainable construction?
To rapidly transform the construction and real estate industry, innovative and adapted financial products are needed. How can we design financial products that enable investments in sustainable innovations and carbon sinks for sustainable construction by 2030? - 12.30 - 13.30 How does the conflict of objectives affect sustainable solutions in public procurement?
Public procurement is an enabler to meet the demands of the transition to a sustainable society. What are the conflicting objectives that the public buyer will face and thus need to manage? Speakers include Program Manager Olga Kordas - 14.00 - 15.00 How do we scale up a national reuse market for construction products and industrialize profitable reuse?
99% of the built environment is already built and we have the square meters we need even if they are used in the wrong way. But our earning, planning and construction process is still based on linear new construction. How do we pivot and scale up a profitable business model for an industrialized reuse process? - 15.30-16.30 AI for climate change mitigation in the built environment - Superpower or energy villain?
AI is making inroads as a tool in the built environment, and digitization for climate transition is getting more attention. How can AI contribute to the climate transition and other important societal goals in our cities? Is AI and digitalization a superpower for climate transition or an energy villain? Speakers include Deputy Program Director Åsa Minoz and Daniel Dersén will moderate.

- 17.15 - 19.00 Mingle: Sustainable construction 2030 - what do we take home from Almedalen to change faster?
The construction and real estate sector's ambitions for climate-neutral construction by 2030 are challenging. To get there, collaboration is needed around the development, dissemination and scaling up of sustainable innovations. A warm welcome to a mingle focusing on what we take away from the day. The speakers include Program Manager Olga Kordas
Friday, June 27
- 10:00-10:45 Social misconceptions - what are they and how do they affect decision-making in the climate transition?
Friday, June 27, 10.00-10.45, Green Mind, Hästgatan 12
Many people want the climate transition to go faster - but we underestimate how many people share that desire. These social misconceptions affect both behavior and policy decisions. The seminar will present Peerpointing - a methodology to identify and counteract these misconceptions, strengthening engagement and giving politicians a clearer mandate. Professor Stephan Barthel from the University of Gävle will also present new data from Fairtrans showing how public opinion on issues such as wind power and fuel prices is often misinterpreted - and what the consequences are.
Speakers include Deputy Program Director Åsa Minoz.
