Welcome to the City Lab Workshop: How can regional mobilization strengthen municipalities' journey towards climate neutrality?

The 2030 cities have high climate ambitions, but are in many ways dependent on neighboring municipalities and the regional level to achieve their climate goals. Structures that affect the climate often span municipal boundaries (e.g. the transport system, energy infrastructure and land use). Public actors need to strengthen their ability to act strategically, long-term and in collaboration to create and use a common space for action. How can regional actors contribute to municipalities' transition capacity?

The Gothenburg region and RISE, together with Viable Cities, invite you to a digital workshop to immerse ourselves in how a regional mobilization can strengthen the municipalities' journey towards climate neutrality. We will discuss a few cases and then move on to an interactive workshop, with the ambition to land in collaborative ideas that participants can take with them directly. To create the most value, we recommend that participating municipalities invite their region/municipal association and county administrative board.

The workshop is part of the Viable Cities Transition Lab, and is part of the feasibility study "Mobilization for faster climate transition in the Gothenburg region". The project is funded through the Viable Cities initiative at pre-study, whose purpose is to give increased power in climate and sustainability work in cities with high ambition in their climate transition work, as well as create a better ability for many more cities to speed up the transition for greater effect within a shorter time frame.
