Climate Breakfast #46: When Demand and Solutions Can Come Together to Halve Emissions from Construction
Through the partnership between Fossil-Free Sweden and Viable Cities, their upcoming letter of intent “Halve Emissions,” and the construction industry’s “Reduction Roadmap” initiative, two key forces in the climate transition are joining forces. “Reduction Roadmap” demonstrates that the construction industry supports stricter national requirements and seeks emission limits that will at least halve construction emissions by 2030. At the same time, “Hälften bort” mobilizes public and private clients to set requirements for halving emissions by 2030 at the latest.
The construction industry and clients together are a powerful driving force behind the transition. The construction industry demonstrates what is possible and welcomes higher ambitions, while clients create demand for the necessary solutions.
At Climate Breakfast #46, Fossil-Free Sweden, Reduction Roadmap, and the City of Malmö participated and discussed how clearer climate requirements and an industry ready to enhance its competitiveness through more climate-smart solutions can work together. What role can cities play as procurers? How does the industry benefit from this transition?
